JT Service Announced as Race Director of the
2008 Metro Silicon Valley Marathon

Key Addition Made to Event Management Team

We are pleased to announce the expansion of our management team in response to the rapid growth of our event over the past four years. J.T. Service will assume the role of Metro Silicon Valley Marathon Race Director, while Doug Epstein will become Executive Director.

Service was born and raised in San Jose and has been a prominent member of the Bay Area running community since his days with the Archbishop Mitty cross-country and track teams. Over the past three years, he has served as assistant coach for the Santa Clara University cross-country and track teams under the direction of his father Tom, head coach of the programs since 2001. Most recently, J.T. qualified for, and participated in, the 2008 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in New York City. He will graduate from the School of Law at Santa Clara this spring.

According to Doug Epstein, “J.T. possesses a unique combination of sports management experience, local roots, and credibility as an elite athlete. Over the past two years, he has been a highly productive member of the Metro Silicon Valley Marathon® team, and he is now ready to take on day-to-day management of the entire production.”

“I am excited to infuse new energy and creativity into this world-class event,” Service stated. “To have the opportunity to put on a major race right here in my backyard is a dream come true. The community should get ready for a great day of running because 2008 will be our best event yet.”
